Since its inception in November 2020, PHHF has worked to advance its mission to bring continuous awareness to domestic violence with various community events, fundraising and direct victims and abusers to its community partners for resources and support. Prior to establishing a foundation in 2020, Latrice Mosley-Smith, the President and CEO organized the first Annual Purple Hose and Heels 5K on October 18, 2014, in honor of her mother Linda Mosley, who died in August 2014.
After losing her mother in 2014, as a result of colon cancer, Latrice decided to organize a 5K to honor her mother's life. Latrice and her mother shared a very close relationship and they also shared a secret-the physical abuse her mother suffered for 5 years at the hands of her father.
On October 18, 2014, during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the 1st Annual Purple Hose and Heels 5K Charity Event was held in Matteson, Il with Target being a corporate sponsor. The ladies walked a mile in their sister's shoes literally, as they walked in purple hose and heels chanting "End the Silence Stop the Violence".
The event was a huge success and $1200 was raised for the South Suburban Family Shelter. This has since become an annual event.
In October 2018, Latrice became the executive producer of the hit stage play Survivor's Monologue, which is based on her personal experience with Domestic Violence. The play made it's debut on Saturday, February 2, 2019 with 2 SOLD OUT shows. Both shows were a huge success. Survivor's Monologue also had an encore presentation on October 26, 2019, at Victory Apostolic Church in Matteson.
This year will mark the 10th year of the Purple Hose and Heels 5K Charity Event, which will be held on October 12, 2024, two days following the inaugural gala.
During the past 10 years, the annual Purple Hose and Heels 5K Charity Event has had 20,000 registered, over 25,000 in attendance and two major corporate sponsors.
